Last weekend we had our first, rather wet, but successful excursion to the Lagan. Most of the participants marvelled at the lovely calm conditions and loved the experience. So there is no doubt we will be back, though I hope you don’t get too soft and are yearning for some waves and salt spray come the spring!

On Sunday we also lent the boats to Queen’s Boat Club so they could have their annual novice races. As well as being the first time these rowers had used a coastal boat, it was the first races they had taken part in, so they were a bit tentative to start off with. After suitable motivation from Michael and myself as coxes, they soon got stuck in.

The Queen’s rowers were one short, so Alasdair manfully stepped in, rolling back the years to actually stroke the winning boat home. He also coxed the challenge race between the Queen’s and Whitehead coaches in which WCRC honour was upheld with a glorious victory.

The fine art of turning a coastal rowing boat in a tight space.
