Shore 2 Oar
The project was run as part of the SportNI Everybody Active scheme with the assistance of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council. We took 24 women who had never rowed before and took them through a 4 week programme consisting of a weekly fitness session with a gentle circuits session, and a rowing machine (Erg) session to introduce basic technique and muscle memory. We then got everyone out on the water.

Circuits for strength and conditioning
Initially this was in a boat with 2 experienced rowers, with several sessions to get everything used to rowing and gain confidence on the water.
We finished off the programme with a graduation afternoon, where the Shore2Oar participants took to the water on their own with just an experienced cox. Everyone got a chance to row, and also participate in a short race. The course finished off with a BarBQ for friends and family, and presentation of graduation certificates.
If you are interested, we hope to run the programme again in 2022.
